PhD topic:
The memory of convection: representing tropical convection in global climate models.

 

PhD description:
Using numerical simulations by cloud-resolving models and the LMDZ GCM, this PhD project aims at investigating the convective memory of the atmosphere. In particular, we will analyse which few parameters are able to represent the convective memory in a simple and physical way. This may help parameterizations of deep convection take into account memory/organisation effects (such as cold pools) during the growth of deep tropical clouds, tackling some of the biggest issues of parameterized convection in climate models.
